HKDSE (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education) Curriculum

• The HKDSE serves as the core university entrance examination for Hong Kong senior secondary students, holding a status comparable to the Chinese Mainland's Gaokao.

• The curriculum comprises compulsory subjects — Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Citizenship and Social Development — complemented by elective subjects chosen according to students' interests and aptitudes, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, and Economics.

• Candidates must complete 4 core subjects plus 2-3 electives, with the best results from 5 subjects determining university eligibility

IB (International Baccalaureate) Program

• The IB program is a highly influential high school curriculum system aimed at fostering comprehensive development and international perspectives in students. The curriculum consists of six subject groups and three core courses.

• The six subject groups cover Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts. Students are required to select one course from each subject group for in-depth study. The three core courses include Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), which focus on developing students' critical thinking, research skills, and social responsibility.

• The maximum score for the IB diploma is 45 points, which includes 42 points from the six courses and 3 points from TOK, EE, and CAS (1 point each). A student must achieve all 3 points to receive the IB diploma. A score of 45 is the highest possible, and a score above 40 is considered high. Students applying to Ivy League universities typically need a score of 40 or above.

General Certificate of Education Advanced Level in the UK

• The main examination boards in the UK include CAIE, Edexcel, AQA, OCR, ICAAE, WJEC, CEA, and SQA. The more common examination boards in China are Edexcel, CAIE, and Oxford AQA.

• To apply to UK universities with A-Level grades, students generally need to choose 3 subjects. However, students aiming for top universities such as G5 or Oxbridge usually choose 4-5 subjects.

• A-Level grades are divided into A*, A, B, C, D, E, and U, with A* being the highest, E being a pass, and U being a fail.
